Our Work.

What We Do.

Beautifully Broken is a 501c3 non-profit agency dedicated to women’s health and wellness, with art as the therapeutic avenue to recovery from life’s trauma and challenges. Our mission is to Empower Women through Healing, Recovery, Encouragement, and Civic Engagement.

We are a group of women who have experienced trauma during childhood or as adults. We are from all backgrounds, but primarily, we are women of color and/or Queer or Transgender women. Some of us are homeless, some have traded sex for money, some have been incarcerated, some have lost our children to the system, are struggling with mental illness and addiction, and/or are single mothers. Whatever it may be, we all share something that society looks down upon as broken. However, this is what makes us beautiful.

Our collective voices for women who have often been shamed, denied access, and re-traumatized through institutional failures, makes a difference in our lives and the lives of women and girls here in the Denver metro area and statewide.

Art Therapy

As we express ourselves with different mediums, we visibly relax. As we relax, we talk. As we talk, we are able to gradually let go of our inhibitions and share things we would not normally say in public. The experiences we share will encourage those around us.

Mindfulness

The use of mindfulness practices to improve health and physical wellbeing dates back over 2,000 years. Mindfulness practices include breathing techniques, physical movement and poses, and meditation/relaxation techniques.

We believe every man, woman and child is beautiful. We also believe that each one of us has been hurt. Our goal is to help you find beauty in your brokenness, realizing that you are made stronger by the hurt, the challenges and the traumas you have experienced. In and through this strength, you are able to hold your head up, face the world with dignity, and in turn, help your children, your families and friends to find self-worth.

Two beautiful vases sit on a table. One falls off and breaks. We pick the pieces up, glue them back together, and reposition this broken vase beside the "perfect" vase. The broken vase feels ugly, unworthy ... broken. However, we put a candle in each vase and turn out the lights. Which vase do we see the light shining through? The broken vase, of course. As we travel the road called "Journey", the way becomes dark and fearful. The "broken vase" sheds light, and the way becomes easier. The light is the experiences we've been through. As we shine (with this light), we also help those who travel with us.
